The "Halo Effect" and Project Management
The "Halo Effect" appears in all walks of life and the people manifesting the effect most often do not recognize that they are doing it. This phenomenon is rampant in the project management profession, and it is time that it comes to light and the implications are understood.
First, if you are not familiar with the term it is where a person who is very good at A is assumed to be very good at B, C, and D. Or the reverse where the person is not good at A is assumed to not to be good at B, C, and D. This is rampant in the area of project management and we need to understand why. Fundamentally it is because so little is understood about projects and the profession of project management.
Private PMP Exam Review Training
Many companies and organizations have project managers who desire to receive Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI), but due to their heavy work schedules and/or company budget constraints they are not able to participate in 5 day "boot camp" programs that range in cost from $1,500 to $2,500, plus travel expenses in many cases. Adventus has worked with local companies to customize PMP reviews for groups of 6 to 12 employees. The cost of such training is a 10% to 20% of the cost to send individuals to these "boot camp" settings. Past participants have been very successful in passing the certification exams.
If your company is based in the Greater Columbia South Carolina area and you are interested in providing this opportunity to your project management staff, please use the Contact Us function at the top of the page to request a phone call or a meeting to discuss this training.
| Remember that the PMBOK® Guide is being updated for the next edition to be published in December 2012. The exam content will be changing in June 2013. Now is the time to take the certification exam as there will be many changes and updates for the new edition. |
New Project Management Training Series
Adventus is in the process of developing a series of training sessions to provide a comprehensive overview of project management. This series, entitled Foundations of Project Management Series, is targeted to project managers who need to acquire knowledge of the proven tools and techniques of project management and to be able to immediately apply them to their projects. Highlights and hands on exercises will be included throughout the series for those persons preparing for the PMP or CAPM exam. Upon completion, the series will be consistent with A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) - Fifth Edition, which is to be published in December of 2012.
Be on the lookout for more information concerning progress on this series and for opportunities for members of your organization to be included in pilot audiences. In the meantime, Adventus is able to provide training on project management based upon the current version of the PMBOK® Guide. Training can be customized to your needs, whether you require an overview of project management or deep dives into the tools and techniques associated with the nine knowledge areas.
